![]() Renovation Details for “Cho-ie” Under Consideration Kamanza-cho “Cho-ie” Renovation Project, 2nd Meeting On Saturday, May 8 at 8:00 pm, the second meeting of the Kamanza-cho Machiya Project was held at “Cho-ie.” First, members of the “Kyomachiya Architects” presented an in-depth explanation of the revised construction plan. Renovation proposals this time focused on 1) those groups planning to use “Cho-ie,” 2) factors essential to elevate the building’s perceived value as a functioning “machiya,” and 3) requirements for fulfilling its function as a base and model for future machiya renovation projects in accordance with endowments received from the World Monuments Fund (WMF). Further study will be necessary to determine how best to minimize constructions costs while realizing the above points. Plans for a formal visit to the “Onoya” family gravesite prior to beginning renovations and ideas for the offical “yago” (house name) of the renovated “Cho-ie” machiya were also discussed. At our next meeting on May 23 (Sun) at 7:00 pm, project details will be examined more concretely in order to move forward with preparations for renovation work.
