The third meeting of the Kamanza-cho “Cho-ie project convened on May 23 (Sun) at 7:00 pm. In attendance were members of the NPO Kyomachiya Council -- which has general oversight over the entire “Cho-ie” Project -- Kamanza-cho representatives, as well as Mr. Hirohisa Fukiage and Ms. Akari Nishii from the Kyoto Center for Community Collaboration (KCCC), which is responsible for dispensing subsidies from the World Monuments Fund (WMF). The first order of business was to confirm their three-party memorandum and include tax-related issues in the discussions that took place. Also present were Mr. Ryoichi Kinoshita, Mr. Shohei Oshita, and Mr. Yasuhiro Uchida from the Kyomachiya Architects. The Kamanza-cho representatives were Mr. Taka’aki Morimura, Mr. Eiji Yoshida, Mr. Masaharu Inoue, and Mr. Akira Hasegawa.

First, the Kyomachiya Architects a detailed explanation of construction cost cuts. After much deliberation to minimize air conditioning requirements, exclude furniture construction, and downsize the annex, total renovation costs were substantially reduced. WMF subsidy payments, distribution of construction costs and payment schedules for design fees and construction costs were discussed and the length of the construction period was reconfirmed.

After another review of the above issues, we plan to finalize design and construction contracts at our next meeting on Sunday, May 30 beginning at 7:00 pm at Kamanza-cho “Cho-ie.” The construction period is scheduled to last from June to October, 2010.
